Many rave about the fresh taste of the fish, with notes of sweetness and perfect flakiness, making each bite a delight.

Customers appreciate the friendly and accommodating staff, who handle special requests and cash-only situations with grace.

The varied menu stands out, with excellent burgers that may surprise first-time visitors and traditional favorites like pies and sausages.

Most Disliked

Some diners are disappointed by the cash-only payment policy, which can catch newcomers off guard, though the staff usually helps navigate this smoothly.

Occasional queues during peak hours can lead to longer wait times for the takeaway service, especially on weekends.

A minority mention that they would love more vegetarian options beyond the current selections, seeking diversity in plant-based offerings.

Growing up in a fishing town on the south coast, I was spoilt for fish and chips. It’s rare that I find anything anywhere else that comes close. I’ve lived locally for 20 years now and every time I hear “the new chippy that’s opened is the best!” I dare not get my hopes up. Then I came to Codswallop. Far and away the best I’ve had locally, if not anywhere. Perfectly cooked. Crisp batter, fresh and flakey fish, great chips. Clearly a pride taken in doing it properly. I can stop pining for the chippy back ‘ome now. 10/10 ❤️

I love this place. The batter is consistently light and crispy and more importantly there is never skin on the cod. Codswallop also make incredible burgers which you might not think to try at this quality local favourite chip shop. Highly recommended!!

All round 5 stars from me, I had the Jumbo and chips and one of the best fish suppers I've had in years. Well cooked and fresh piece of cod, crispy batter not greasy (considering cooked in a fryer) and lovely chips, light and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Great staff, very polite (even when I didn't read a sign saying cash only 🤦) even carried on with my order while I went a draw out money (most places would wait for you to come back with cash) I would definitely make the trip to get these. Best I've found around and I'm mainly in Bath.

Picked up fish and chips on a Friday night. It was the best that I've ever eaten. Light crispy batter, sweet cod that fell apart into medallions, and tasty chips. An extremely satisfying meal and worth the money.
